Jonathan Madoff – Director and Head of School

Jonathan holds an MSW and is a graduate of Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. He has an extensive background in social work and education both in North America and in Israel. Jonathan served as the Academic Advisor at the Rothberg International School at Hebrew University, Jerusalem, and before becoming the Director he spent four years as the Director of General Studies on TRY.

Jonathan has been part of the Ramah family for the past 26 years. He began his journey at Ramah Poconos as a camper and staff member and spent seven summers as a yoetz/guidance counselor for Ramah Israel Seminar. Jonathan is married and lives in Jerusalem with his wife Roni, and sons Yuval, Ori and Noam.

Aliza Zeff – Director of Teaching & Learning

Aliza holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Bank Street College of Education and taught for many years in Philadelphia’s Perelman Jewish Day School. Since making Aliyah in 2012, she has worked as an educational consultant and curriculum writer for The National Library of Israel, Behrman House Publishers, and others. In addition to working for many summers at Camp Ramah in the Poconos, Aliza served as the interim Director of Academics in 2019 before taking on the position permanently. She lives in Jerusalem with her husband and four children.

Hillary Menkowitz – Student Life Coordinator

Hillary joins the TRY team after spending the past decade working in the world of informal Israel education as a professional Tour Guide and Educator. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Hillary grew up as a Ramahnik and has worked in a variety of roles through the years at both camps Ramah in the Poconos and Darom. Since making Aliyah in 2008, Hillary has stayed connected to her Ramah roots as a Tour Educator with Ramah Israel on the Seminar and RII programs. She is thrilled for the opportunity to work with and support the students and madrichim of TRY in her new role as Student Life Coordinator.

Miriam Tekuzener – Director of Israel Studies

Miriam has been a tour educator for over 10 years and has extensive experience guiding families, and 8th, 10th and 12th grade groups, including Birthright, March of the Living and the Alexander Muss High School in Israel. Miriam has a BA in Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology, in addition to a BA in Informal Experiential Education, both from Bar Ilan University. She received her tour guiding certificate from the Ministry of Education and Haifa University. She is approaching the completion of her MA in Jewish Education at Hebrew University. Finally, Miriam participated in an experiential Jewish educators course at Yeshiva University (M²) in New York.

Miriam was born in the USA but moved to Jerusalem when she was just a few weeks old. She lives in Jerusalem and is what we call a full ‘Yerushalmit’, from the Friday afternoon hummus and kubbeh soup, to never missing a Hapoel Yerushalayim basketball game.

Rachel Goldberg – Academic Liaison and Learning Specialist

Rachel Goldberg was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and loved her summers at Ramah Wisconsin. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University, in both Near Eastern Judaic Studies and Sociology. Rachel completed a year of graduate school in Gender Studies at The New School for Social Research, in New York. She then moved for eight years to Berkeley, California, before making aliyah. Her teaching experience includes being an educator in Jewish day schools, The Endangered Spirits Outward Bound Program in Northern California, and Hebrew University’s Florence Melton School. Since living in Israel she has mentored for the World Union of Jewish Students, led Birthright counselor training, and taught for Young Judaea’s Year Course. In 2014, Rachel joined the Tichon Ramah Yerushalayim team as the Learning Specialist. She lives in Jerusalem with her husband and three children, and loves being part of the Ramah family.

Elinor Kaufman – Registrar and TRY Family Liaison

Elinor was born and raised in Montreal and made aliyah in 2006. She has a BSW from McGill University and an MA in Non-Profit Management from the Hebrew University. Before coming to Ramah, Elinor was the Office Manager of PresenTense Israel and also worked for a number of years as the Tourism and Development coordinator for World Emunah. Outside of the office, Elinor is an active member of the Jerusalem community theater and lives in Jerusalem with her husband and two sons.
